Sin leads to death

I am going to make an observation but am going to request that a particular truth be kept in mind.  Truth #1 - Jesus' death and resurrection defeated the power of sin and death.  Jesus now holds all authority.  With that in mind, consider now that sin leads to death.
Any time a person, a community or a culture turns away from God to anything else, be it deliberately sinful or simply self serving, they are turning to death.  So when we look at our own western culture, what do we see?  Even despite the Protestant foundations of this nation (some may say because of it), our nation is turning away from God.  This then means we are embracing death.  So the fact that our nation is becoming what it is, i.e., pro abortion, pro homosexuality, pro violence, selfishness, greed, etc., it should come as no surprise.
We have to expect that the USA will decline and fall only to be replaced by something else.  We have no way of knowing when this will happen or by what we will be replaced, but we can know that it will happen, for sin leads to death.

  1. Hi Ross -
    You make a valid point here, both in terms of historical accuracy and spiritual repercussions. This has been assessed thusly: "‘The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:

    1. from bondage to spiritual faith;
    2. from spiritual faith to great courage;
    3. from courage to liberty;
    4. from liberty to abundance;
    5. from abundance to complacency;
    6. from complacency to apathy;
    7. from apathy to dependence;
    8. from dependence back into bondage."

    I think one need not be overly astute to see which phase we have entered as of late. For all our presumptuous insistence that we know so much more than the nations that came before us, copious evidence indicates that the much-vaunted ideologies that have been nothing but checkmarks in the societal collapse column before now STILL will be consigned to historys trash bin, just as they always have. It could be well argued that Godlessness and moral decay are at the very least catalysts of societal collapse, if not direct causes, but as I've come to find, the rampant and unabashed dishonesty among the Christophobic will cause them to dismiss even the most crystal clear of evidence to this effect, were you to lay it out before their very eyes.
    All of this can be very disheartening to consider, the widespread determination of people to risk damnation as well as the continual inability of societies to avoid eventual failure, but as I recall, God Himself said that most would choose destruction, so it could be no other way. From each generation then, a relative few will pass the test set before us and ascend. Perhaps that is why He, in his incomprehensible wisdom, permits history to cyclically repeat for so long, that said saints will eventually amount to a number that is sufficient for His inscrutable desires.
    But who can say. I recently took a college class in Biology, and over the course of the semester, I watched the number of students dwindle from 3 dozen to 1 dozen: I sometimes wondered why so many dropouts but ultimately, it was not my concern. I diligently stuck to my studies, helped those next to me when needed, and passed the class in the end. The metaphor here is presumably evident but I'll add this: I'd do well to have you at my desk in Gods classroom.
